I’ve always considered myself a character actor and generally gravitate toward the comedic, particularly as a conservative or refined type who lets loose and/or loses it. Think Annette Bening meets Jackie Hoffman meets Julianne Moore; add a dash of Madeline Kahn, and you start to get the picture.
I made my professional debut as a singing telegram messenger during my high school years in Arizona. (I may or may not still own a costume from that time—and it fits!) After training at Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, I did a stint at Walt Disney World, and then spent time in Los Angeles doing theatre, commercials and TV (plus an odd assortment of sideline gigs—with a great batch of stories to go with ‘em). Just before the millennium, and motivated by life events, I had a flash of inspiration: "Hey, I can move to New York!" So, I did.
I’ve been able to work across genres and media and borders—straight theatre, musicals, cabaret, film and TV, in NYC, LA, regionally and overseas. All of the above have made possible my seeing parts of the world I might not have seen otherwise and given me a broader perspective (not to mention brimming photo albums), for which I’m grateful.
